Life is like a train ride, with its stations and changes of direction, some accidents, pleasant surprises in some cases, and deep sadness in others…
Newborn we get on the train and meet our parents, we think they will always travel with us, but sooner or later they’ll go off at a station and we continue the journey alone. Suddenly we find ourselves without their company and affection.
However, many other special people will go up on the train of our life: our brothers, friends, and at one point, our better half…
Some will get on the train to get off at the next station and go unnoticed. Others will bitter our journey, those annoying fellow travelers that we hope get off the train as soon as possible.
Others, getting off the train, will leave a permanent vacuum… and you’ll see that some, even if you love them very much, will choose to sit in a different wagon from our… All the way they’ll remain separate, unless we decide to approach and sit beside them. In fact, if we truly love them, we’d better hurry before someone else would occupy the place.
The journey continues, full of challenges, dreams, fantasies, happiness, sorrows, expectations and goodbyes…
But it is important to maintain a good relationship with all the passengers, searching in each one the best he has to offer.
Over time, we must learn to live with some and survive without others. We must learn to deal with those people we wouldn’t want close to us, and we must also learn to move forward despite losses and pains.
When you can’t live with persons that bother you …
Throughout life we meet many people who don’t share our values and points of view. These are people who can be deeply selfish, manipulative or even toxic. But getting angry doesn’t help, it hurts.
We must learn to live with these people without compromising our emotional balance. We cannot change seat every time someone does something that bothers us. If we do, we end up running from wagon to wagon on the train of our life, perpetually nervous and angry.
In fact, one of the greatest lessons of life is precisely to learn to deal with people who bother us. Over time we not only become more tolerant people, but we will also learn to concentrate on the positive aspects of those around us. It doesn’t mean we have to suffer passively, but we have to become wiser and more balanced persons.
Over time we will understand that everyone makes mistakes and is imperfect like us, and will learn to focus on commonalities rather than differences. Then everything becomes easier.
When you can’t survive without people who leave you…
There’re people we would always want at our side. Unfortunately, this is not always possible. Everyone has his own station and we have to learn to let him go. It’s difficult, but if we don’t cure it the wound remains open. Then, we won’t allow other interesting people approach us because every time they do it, the open wound will burn and we’ll go back.
These new people won’t take the place of those who left us. We have plenty of free space in our hearts to preserve memories and create new bonds. We just have to learn let them go and detach. If we remain stuck in pain, the train of our life will continue its journey and we’ll lose the beautiful scenery and the company of other travelers.
In fact, the great mystery of life is that we do not know which station we’ll go down, and locked up in this pain, we could lose everything offered by people who keep travelling at our side. When we’re not able to let go those who abandoned us, by choice or fear, our journey will lose its meaning and will not be worth the effort.
Therefore, let us make the trip worthwhile. We not only have to strive to leave good memories for those who travel at our side, but we have also to procure us good memories. Keep in mind that further on there’s another station, and you don’t know when will be the last. Therefore, take advantage of every moment of the trip.
